Celebrate the ocean with the Shaw Centre for the Salish Sea and friends! Kick off Ocean Week Victoria with this free community event that is fun for the whole family.

Join us at the Maritime Museum of BC for an educational and creative drop-in program where participants can create linocut bookmark or postcard prints, while learning about Salish Sea animals and their ecosystems.

Drop in, explore, and chat with our curators and collection managers at the Royal BC Museum to uncover the fascinating stories behind these specimens.

Join us for a special Ocean Week Victoria experience in partnership with the Greater Victoria Public Library. Visit pop-up reading corners in the Natural History gallery and museum lobby, where you can enjoy a collection of ocean-themed books, for all ages.

Join author and musician Alex Chen and illustrator Lis Xu as they share the inspiration and process behind their new picture book and musical audiobook – a captivating blend of storytelling, ocean stewardship, vibrant artwork, and mesmerizing sounds.

During Ocean Week Victoria, join us for Queer & Curious, a special behind-the-scenes tour designed for the queer community! From rare specimens to the creative magic that brings exhibits to life, this tour is a chance to see the museum in a whole new way – through curiosity, connection, and joy!

Songs from the Nearshore is a multidisciplinary piece combining music and dance with science communication. The original musical score and choreography are inspired by real tide and wave data from across Canada.

Visit our interactive educational table and kids’ colouring station to learn about marine conservation and the incredible wildlife of the Salish Sea. Participate in our colouring contest to win whale watching tickets!

This drop-in weekly program introduces children ages 3–5 to the exciting world of museum learning! To celebrate Ocean Week, we will be learning all about reefs through through crafts, play, stories, and movement.

Join us at the Maritime Museum of BC to learn about the history and beauty of sea glass in this hands-on workshop. Design your very own stunning piece of jewelry using locally sourced sea glass. No experience necessary! You’ll leave with a unique and wearable work of art that captures the beauty of the sea.

This World Ocean Day the doors of the Maritime Museum of BC will be open to everyone by donation! Join us to celebrate our maritime heritage and culture all day long.

Surfrider Foundation Canada’s South Vancouver Island chapter is thrilled to host their World Ocean Day beach cleanup in partnership with RAVEN Trust! This year, in addition to cleaning the coastline, we will also be raising funds to support RAVEN’s campaign for Heiltsuk First Nation.

This fun, free, family-friendly event brings together a variety of conservation organizations from around the Salish Sea, including divers and touch tanks. Discover what’s happening in your big blue backyard, learn about cool critters, and find out how you can help to protect this amazing ecosystem.
